Check out "Telephone Line" by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) on Amazon Music. https://music.amazon.ca/albums/B00K...00K9DF0PS&ref=dm_sh_lco1HlPKGpjR4xIbVPBA1fZbl

Indeed. :)
Couple of friends opened up a year ago and they are making some very fine Gin.
I just happen to walk right by their door on my way home from work. Total coincidence. Lol
Well your boozin taste in music is contagious. I'm likely in the early stages of an Electric Light Orchestra binge.

Dry man made rock start? I had a very similar experience with my build. Went from averaging around .05 to .25 in no time. Peaked at .33 and now I appear to be settling in the low .1s. Coral didn't care one bit throughout all the swings.

Yup. All Marco rock. Phosphate is the one thing that’s not stable in my tank. Tested this morning and it was 0.00 from 0.20 a couple days ago. It just is what it is. I don’t stress about it but it is annoying.
and ya, same here, my coral seems to not care what the number is. Can be tricky to keep everything in check in only 20 gallons. I dunno, but it sure is interesting this reefing thing.

I'm about 24g total volume, so I understand. I tested PO4 like a crazy person after that spike. I've become much more casual about it. I went from testing almost daily to now maybe twice a week. I hope to reduce it more. Trying to use the film algae on my glass as a gauge now.

It's my understanding that our dry rock was absorbing the excess po4 and at some point it can no longer hold anymore. That's where our spikes came from. This is a whole new concept for me as in the past I'd never used anything other than live ocean rock.

That’s really interesting. I didn’t know that about the dry rock. Makes some sense for sure. I’m coming up to 8 months soon and this is my first marine tank.
I’m a testaholic too. I think it makes me feel connected to the tank in some strange way. Like you, I am getting better and not testing quite as much. That’s a good indicator, the glass I mean. If I see something different happening I’ll test everything and make notes. I’m trying to build my own knowledge base.
I follow your build as well and it looks pretty sweet!

I found it very interesting myself. It was really nice to have an explanation as to why I saw such a sudden increase.

I'm still dialing in my film algae po4 testing eyeballs, but I've heard of others using this method effectively. Cleaner glass, only needing to scrape every 2ish days has me in the low .1s. Above .2, I'll notice significantly more film and the need to clean daily or every other day. If things are looking way too clean, that would be my alarm that po4 could be on the way to bottoming out.

I'll take some time here soon to go through your whole thread. Glad you're enjoying mine!

Random thought for this morning.
Trying to replicate ocean conditions in your tank seems like a complete fool’s errand to me. How could you possibly do it!? It’s simply not possible. So many variables that can’t be replicated. It’s best to look at each tank, each tiny little ecosystem we try to make as a completely separate entity. With different needs different pros and cons. I think we all agree that every tank is different and has to be treated individually.
This is one reason aquaculture is so beneficial.
Anyway, just been reading about people trying to’match ocean conditions and got me thinking.
Any thoughts ?

Well crapstick. Just finishing work now which means if I leave now to get the tank I’d be battling rush hour Toronto traffic both ways so the 3 1/2 hour round trip could be 5 hours or more. Ya, I’m too Old for that sheet.
have to be tomorrow:)
