Here we are, i'm an "almost" 40 years old tattooist, working in his own private studio, used to have a 5 feet african cichlid tank just next to the workstation.
Sold it three weeks ago because some guy offered me a fair price for the whole setup, was planning to switch to SW some day, so i took it.
The sold tank missing was making the place really dull and empty, it bothered me, and seing it my beloved wife surprised me by giving me the missing money i needed to order the 6 feet reef tank of my dreams ( yes she makes a good living working as a mortage specialist in a bank).

So, while waiting for my already ordered Marine X 60.2 which is still backordered here in Canada, i start a second thread for this one as it seems that this one will be here first.

The plan is to go with a mixed reef tank with easy and sturdy fishes (clowns, tang, wrasse...) for a start, then easy corals, softies, etc... before going for the more difficult ones.

The gear should come in this week and goes like this :

- Bubble Magus Curve 9 Elite Protein Skimmer w/ Sicce PSK-1200
- Coral Box by Jebao DCA 12000 Smart Pump (Max 3220 GPH)
- 4 x AI HYDRA 32HD
- 2 x Ecotech Marine Vortech MP60wQD Quietdrive
- Tunze osmolator universal 3155 - auto top off
- 2 x Eheim (Ebo) Jager 250W Heater
- InkBird heater controller
- 8 x CaribSea Arag Alive Special Grade Reef Sand 20 lbs
- 60 lbs of marco rocks
- 50 lbs of base rocks
- 30 lbs of live rocks

The tank will start with a fishless cycle with Microbacter7 as a kickstart, and the first fish will be two couples of clowns once the cycle is stable.

Gear i plan to buy, in a near future, along the way :
- Kamoer F4 PRO Wifi Doser with containers
- media reactor if needed
- Neptune Apex (probably ?)

Will see from there how i'll manage the evolution of that tank.

Not sure if i missing something as it'll be my first ever reef tank, advices and constructive critics are welcome !

Ps : tank will go along the wall with the mirror, customers will be amazed !

Going to be very nice! Let the rockwork cook for a month or so in the DT to let beneficial algae build up. Will prevent issues later on, leave the lights off during this phase

Tank came in yesterday.
It is very, very, very well packaged, you d have to smash it with a truck to make some damages during shipping honestly.
This thing is HEAVY, and I mean HEAVY !
We were 5 to move it and place it on the cabinet.
Instructions for the cabinet are pretty lame but I have years of experience in Ikea furnitures so I went with logic..after dripping the not-so-accurate instructions.
Cabinet is sturdy and heavy, leveling it was a bit of a challenge but doable with patience.
Filling is on the way, rock scape is pretty much here, I might add some on the high side.
Quality is definitely here with this tank, worth the price tag without a doubt.

All is set and cycling is on its way, pretty pleased with the rock work, it's almost silent since i found the soft spot with my return pump and the overflow.
Pump runs at 30% and is completly silent,
Lights's gonna be off for a few weeks, skimmer is off too for now, shrimp in sump is gonna provide the needed ammonia to kick the cycle start.
Just have to wait and be patient now.

Very nice. I should book an appointment for some more ink if I'm down your way.

If I were you, I’d add clowns last! They can be really territorial so its always nice to add them into a community rather than add the community to them! Gorgeous build! Congratulations!!

I m 2 hours east of Montreal, in the woods, next to a lake, beautiful place !

yeah i knwo they are, but i thought clowns are the most sturdy fish to begin with, the tank is fairly long so i was figuring that even if the clowns were territorial there is plenty of room for the next ones.
What would be your running order with fish to begin with if not clowns ?

In a tank that size, I wouldn’t worry about clowns being aggressive and different clowns have different behavior. I’d put a fish list together and then see which order they should go in. For me, I prefer to put tangs in last. They’re crazy swimmers and establish territory quite fast. Hard to put in certain fish once a tang has settled in. But tangs are some of the best worker fish there are! Snails got nothing on them.

- The wife : "wires are messy with all those controllers around the place, you should buy a control board to organize everything"
- Me : "There's no way i'll spend more than 300cad on a piece of wood with holes in it, i'll do it myself !"

***Proceed to do it with pieces of plywood, not so great, 48 hours later...yeah...whatever...

Worked again on the rockscape..should be final now..maybe...still have to glue the ones on the top to secure it.
Cycling is going well...still a long way to go, but i'm starting to think about what fish i'll introduce first, not sure yet, wife want clowns (of course), what would be your fist fish choice to go ?

One week into cycling with liquid ammonia and two shrimps in the sump, ammonia seems to decrease a little since yesterday, but still no nitrates.
Lights are on for a few hours with minimum intensity (5 out of 100) to kick the algae a little so the incoming CUC would get something to eat, started the skimmer with the cup draining back in the sump to keep the "nasty" into the system, so brake-in might be done before i add fish and corals.
I'll test again tomorrow in the morning to see if cycle is progressing.

Tattoo chair is just a few feet from the tank, used to have a 5 feet long ciclhid tank before this one, and customers absolutly loved it.
Watching an aquarium reduce naturally the anxiety, so it s a win/win, customers are happy, tattooist is happy too !
