It's with an extremely heavy heart that I create this thread letting you know that one a part of our family has passed away tragically.

@Donovan Joannes passed away this past Sunday Jan. 7th.

Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old man drowned at Tanjung Aru Beach 1, here, Sunday.

The Sino-Kadazan from Kg Tombobo, Jalan Lama, Lok Kawi, identified by police as Donovan Joannes, was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 about 10.40am.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said a police team arrived at the scene about 10am after being alerted via MERS 999.

He said it could not be immediately established if the man was swimming or fishing at the beach prior to the 9.57am incident.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a team from the Fire and Rescue Department applying Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the victim, he added.

The victim was subsequently rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

No injuries were found on the man's body and the case has been classified as drowning (sudden death). - Sherell Jeffrey

I was just made aware of this awful news today but it was first talked about here in Donovan's DIY thread: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/p...nitrate-destroyer.302685/page-33#post-4352214

This is terrible terrible news. I am so saddened today to find this out. While I didn't know Donovan personally I know that he loved reef aquariums and he loved helping people. He was a very valuable member of this community. I really have no words.....

Here is one of his threads where he was collecting that we featured on our FB page and email blasts. I hate hearing this tragic news.

In honor of Donovan we will sticky his DIY thread and we will have a one minute moment of forum silence tomorrow at 12pm est.

WE HAVE ALSO CREATED A GO FUND ME ACCOUNT HERE

Please pray for Donovan's family and friends.
Rest In Peace @Donovan Joannes.

Donovan, I never got to show you the reef tank I've got planned but I'll try and give it as much of your spirit and ingenuity as I can. You taught me much and I thank you for that.
See you around brother!

Stand in the shade of me
Things are now made of me
The weather vane will say
It smells like rain today

God took the stars and he tossed 'em
Can't tell the birds from the blossoms
You'll never be free of me
He'll make a tree from me

Don't say goodbye to me
Describe the sky to me
And if the sky falls, mark my words
We'll catch mocking birds
- Tom Waits
