You CAN NOT keep a thriving, successful reef aquarium without expensive lighting, controlllers, apps, etc. Most certainly you can't have colorful Acros without constant monitoring, dosing, and voodoo!

210 gal, 3 Ocean Revive LED fixtures set at 45% blue zero white 10 hours/day, 10 gal weekly WC ESV salt, homemade algae scrubber, 5ml daily iodine. That's it!

I don’t think you need to monitor, control, or break the bank on crazy stuff. There are things you I need regardless. Good flow, appropriate light intensity, appropriate water quality. How you achieve that is up to the person. But one can’t for example say all tanks will thrive without dosing/running a ca reactor on. At a point (which it appears the tank shown has not reached) the tank will consume more than the 10g elevated wc water can provide.

Keeping up with the demand for Ca, Alkalinity, Mg is obvious. However, to do that does not require expensive equipment. My point here is that all too often new hobbyists are intimidated by the cost and complexity that is promoted by some. A $900+ light fixture may be nice, but certainly does not give anyone an advantage of being successful. The $170 Ocean Revives set on all blue do the job nicely. The $1500+ monitor/doser may be nice, but it most certainly adds complexity and again, does not insure success. A $20 test kit, water changes, or kalk drip will do the job just fine.

I agree with you. I just wanted to clarify. It’s important to be precise. Lots of new hobbyists on here, we can’t assume they know.

You said it Doc !
For many years, I was intimidated by the “complexity” of a keeping a reef tank.
When I finally did decide to convert over to salt water, I ended up applying my lifelong freshwater knowledge of not over thinking it.
Ive been an advocate for simpleness with results and will continue to be.

by the way, thanks for posting the lighting you’re using, always great to see how others are doing with all blue.

Experience is key. Stopping in soon to check out the tank, looks great Dr. Mac

Unfortunately with the recent fire at our facility we are not open for walk-in customers, could be many months. We are shipping again and can accept orders for local pick up outside our facility.
