Weird activity from fish

Hello everyone! I’ve been watching my tank as we all do and I have a 50gal Fowler. I won’t go into detail about my CUC since this has no effect on that. I will explain this fish I have/had and then explain what I’m seeing.

when I started the tank I put the chromis in first and finished with sailfin. Now one of the clowns got caught in my pump I was using as a jet. So I lost a clown and changed the wave circulation. Now for the past few weeks I’ve noticed the big chromis picking on the small one and it’s as if him and the clown have became mates? Idk of its possible but they swim together now and when the other chromis comes near they both peck him. Any ideas?

They are part of the same family so it’s possible two will get along very well and shun a third fish or pick on them. You may have to remove the smallest chromis.

I think I’m going to get a partner for the clown. I knew they were all damsels but didn’t think they would mix like that. Very odd though.

I have a pair of bonded clowns and two chromis (started with four, but one got itself sucked into a pump and the other died when I had an emergency tank transfer). Of the two remaining chromis, one has been weaker and kind of ostracized, while the healthier, brighter chromis has made friends with the clowns and they're all always together.

The weak one is getting healthier, and occasionally the stronger one will nip at him, but mostly he's just alone on the other side of the tank.

I added a single Chromis to my tank that already had a bonded pair of clowns. They let him follow them around for a while, since he was tiny. It was actually really sweet. Now that he’s their size I think they kicked him out of the squad but they don’t pick on him or anything.
