I’m just getting at the end of cycling and I have this weird bright green dusty algae. I’ve never had this before and was wondering if it’s part of the cycle or something different. Nitrates are 0 but nitrates are around 10. Haven’t checked phosphates yet.

Could be green cyano which is a bacteria. Cyano is very common, as it naturally all around us.

Looks like normal algae. Probably green or brown in white light. Get a small CUC and a blenny to get it under control.

I’m picking my snails up in a few days. I’ll have to find a blenny. Are you suggesting a lawnmower?

Those are good. So are tail spots. Tangs are also great but your tank is a little too small for a tang.

just dont overdue with a large cleanup crew or you'll end up with a bunch of dead snails and crabs (starved) and feeding the algae you are trying to remove. I would start slow and build if needed. Good luck!

I’ve had tangs in it before. It’s 120 gallon. I’m not going to do a tang for a while. They always bully the other fish I try to add. A tang will be last if I get one at all.

Blue or red? How many? 120 gallon. I never kept crabs. I thought they would eat the snails
Start small. Can always add more. Plus once they get through with the algae they could starve to death if nothing to eat. I like to have both. Both will eat algae. I’d start with around 20.

I wouldnt just look at it as how many per gallon, adjust to your stocking level and the amount of fish. I only see one fish in your tank atm, so maybe just got 5 or 6 hermits and a few snails. My hermits haven't touched my trouchus snails, but they have attempted to kill nass snails, but didnt succeed.
