I started this hobby with fish only. Coral wasn't invented yet!

Very cool place for folks who need fish related discussions on parameters and water chemistry vs the coral reef side!

Thanks for the new outlet!

I love fish! Most don't seem to last me a year. My oldest fish was a 7 yr old purple tang. Whom I no longer have :(

I'd like to see what others have kept and for how long.
My betta fish lived six years but I'm new to saltwater. Only 8 or 9 months in with my first tank being FOWLR at age 8. Now I have coral at age 13.

I'm excited about a FOWLR forum. IMHO keeping a community FOWLR is at least as challenging as a Reef tank, but in very different ways. Both deserve equal respect and support.

I have one FO tank. It's also a Predator tank. Anything that enters that tank is classified as food until proven otherwise. That includes fingertips, metal tongs, algae clips, you name it!

Here's a few of the current residents. There's a 28" Snowflake Eel named Eellie in there. I've had Moe, the dogface puffer the longest. But Snoball, the porcupine puffer has outgrown Moe and is too large to pass through any of the ship openings. It's probably time to redo the aquascape but I hate losing the ship!

My other tanks are hybrid setups, but all are heavily stocked with fish. I love fish and softies, anything that moves. Most of all I enjoy watching nature interact and learning how different each saltwater creature can be, even within the same species.

My 180 butterfly tank. Couple flasher wrasses and a nice pintail fairy wrasse too. The bannerfish is no more. It developed Popeyes and stopped eating as it went blind. Had to make the tough choice to put it down. It started as a quarter size fish that I put thru qt.

Sweet! I gave up on corals. Never really had success with them. I was always more of a fish guy. I'll post a video of my tank soon. I do have a rock of ricordia. Does that disqualify my tank lol?

Fess up! We know you smeared brine shrimp all over the lens!
that 1st pic is gorgeous. i dont want a coral dominated tank. i want a couple corals and some invertabrates like cleaner shrimp and starfish ( i already have) and scallops but i want to treat it kinda like a fowlr where it looks like a reef outcrop with lots of macroalgae but a sparse population of coral and inverts. as opposed to a densley packed tank.

Aye!!! Finally!!! I’m excited about this forum because a lot of things that pertains to those reef guys don’t pertain to fowlr tanks! We don’t have to worry about not getting fish because they’ll eat the coral. Coral is cool but the fish are better IMO! Fish first!

180 is my next tank size, how much did you pay for your tank?

My tank was made by custom Aquariums. It's starfire front panel with metal frame and black silicone. It's very well built. I am guessing I have 2500 in it but not sure. They were very good to work with. It shipped to me in very well constructed wood crate . Check them out. They sometimes have tanks premade they will offer for sale too.
