As we all know summertime can be a distraction for most of us hobbyist. Vacation time and other activities such as work around the house, the yard, Family activities can all take a drain on us and make it difficult to keep up with our tanks.

So with summer now wrapping up and most of us are looking towards the fall season coming, looking back over the summer, what kept you going in the hobby during this time of year?

Responsibilty was chief factor not to mention as for many, being off work due to Covid-19 and spending more time with the tank

For me it doesn't matter what season it is, taking care of the tank is a year round thing, not a seasonal thing.

I feel exactly the same way you do it doesn’t make any difference. I do go through times of ups and downs especially in these difficult times were in.

What else is there to do besides stay in and take care of the tank? :)

I was just about to upgrade from a 75 to my 180 when Covid started. The new tank sat empty on my floor for months taunting me. Finally got someone in to help move it on to the stand around Memorial Day, been a fun distraction ever since.

It’s been a busy Reefing summer for me! From piecing together components for my new build. Waiting for the tank to be built. Covid really screwed things up there. Production was shut down for over a month. Waiting on the custom sump to be built. Covid screwed things up on that also. Researching equipment for the new tank. Fabricating my stand for the new tank. All of this started a good 9 months ago, but has definitely kept me busy through summer!!! That and keeping up maintenance on my current tank!! It’s an all year thing for me. I’m hoping to have water in the new tank by Christmas. Lol!!!! I forgot how slow of a process it can be. Haha. Fortunately for me, work hasn’t slowed down a bit since this pandemic started, and I’m certainly blessed for that!

Covid. I tore down my 90g and built a sweet butt 150g system. Very cathartic

Given so many of our other activities are shut down (especially travel) one of the things my wife and I can do and enjoy together is snorkeling, beach walks and estuary collecting. And all 3 of those things give me things to do that relate to my aquariums.

See this thread:
https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/snorkeling-collecting-discussion-group.412414/

Toward the end there are lots of photos of our last snorkel trip a month ago and an estuary/beach collecting trip a few days ago. I'm still sorting critters from that trip!

Me snorkeling in the Keys.

A hermit crab my wife waited 10 minutes for it to come out of the shell. At a beach/estuary called Bunche Beach in Ft Myers, Florida.

For me, it’s something healthy to focus on rather than all the stress and worry that life is continuing to pile on during this crap shoot that is Covid and 2020
