I was just wondering if anyone knows what’s wrong with my anemone. And what I can do to help him. His tentacles used to be way longer and he comes out on his own time now not when the light schedule is

What are you using for lighting? How long has it been in there? Also how long has the tank been running?

I am using 2 t5 bulbs 1 aquablue special and a coralife actinic bulb. I’ve had the anemone for almost 3 months and the tank has been running since may

I had 2 T5's for years on a 90 gallon. Enough for some Mushrooms etc but whenever I tried Anemones they ended up in a waste away state after roughly same period. Supplemented with a Fluval LED and my Long Tentacle has been thriving now. Not saying this is your issue but could be. Depends on depth and tank size and where located as well in terms of lighting....

What are your water parameters, all 8 if you have them?
How long have those parameters been stable and in range?

I always rule out water chemistry as it has the greatest impact on our stuff.

While they are not so sensitive to Nitrate level, they are sensitive to changes in light, salinity and nitrate.

In the photos is that sand on it, could a tank mate be stirring the sand up on it?

Sometimes sand gets on the rock when I’m cleaning the tank but I don’t have any fish that stir up the sand, there’s a flame angel and 2 clownfish in the tank that’s it

I’ve had stable warer parameters for a couple of months but saw a very slight increase of nitrite, less than .25ppm . I immediately did water changes

Yup, those are good. Nitrate 0? Really?
A reef uses trace nitrate as a food source, so zero don’t sound like a good level.

Sometimes they just shrink up, get smaller and smaller, even in excellent water chemistry conditions.

and sometimes they split.

how could I raise my nitrate levels safely to 5-10ppm?
