There are lots of them IMO still get too big for the average or even fairly large tank, which is unfortunate as many are really pretty. Personally I’d stick to the ones which have a maximum size listed up to 9-10”.

For the people who knows about emperor angels, if I buy one as a juvenile, will it transition to the beautiful adult colorations on the internet, or will it be duller because it’s in captivity?

2.5 years difference from top pic to bottom he’s even more changed now just a month after bottom picture. With proper diet they have no issues transitioning.

I think many of the Pomacanthus angels and some of the Chaetodontoplus angels still get too big for the average tank. This is why I will only keep the “smaller” large angels: Genicanthus, Apolemichthys, some Chaetodontoplus, Regal, and maybe the Majestic.

there’s a Dutch guy called Tann Hoff who kept a Regal Angel for 16, maybe 17 years in a 165 gallon. His tank’s 110cm x 80cm x 70cm so not big. He told me it probably never got past 5.5” and had been that way up to the day it died. It died from stress and disease after a power cut…. Bummer.
Man those are big words, Tanne also had a couple of Colin's angelfish, I think he only has one left, in addition to other magnificent angels and fish that are a jewel, all that in a 600 liter tank I think, there are some recent videos of a tour of your system.

Hey man! Sorry for not replying your mail quickly. I know it’s been a while haha. Please don’t misunderstand, I’ve just been kind of doing other things recently and some shopping too, and traveling a little and of course deciding what I want so sorry for the delay. I will reply well to you very soon, I think tomorrow or Saturday in my place (Thursday or Friday for you).

What do you mean by big words? :)

I remember a few years ago he had a pair of Colin’s Angels, maybe one of them died? And how old is the remaining one?

Don't worry my friend, take your time and enjoy your trips, you always have to enjoy them in detail.
Well I mean Tanne is one of the best aquarists out there, over the years his tanks have been magnificent, plus he wrote a series of books on reef aquarium maintenance. I have no idea how long he has with the Colin's angelfish (if he still has any), but in his recent videos I think he explains it, and he has a 20+ year old clownfish, and some coral butterflies living in his tank, It's a beauty.

On the RB channel, there is a video of Tanne's Colin's angelfishes, I love that video, for some reason the background music was removed, I liked it a lot and I never knew her name.

Thanks! I’ll get back to you soon friend. I am glad you are doing well. I have seen some videos of his tank and yeah the fish he has are amazing. I wonder if his Clownfish were tank bred or from the wild. The loss of his Regal Angel after I think 16 years was very sad for him. I asked him how big the fish was after 16 years and he said maybe 13-14cm.

Might be some juvenile Chaetodontoplus.
I was looking at it and thought it could be one, looks similar to the Singapore angel but it’s the wrong colour for a juvenile (I think).

Yeah I’m not sure. Singapore Angels have a creamy white color even as juveniles.
Yeah, I just looked up juvenile chaetodontoplus and the black velvet angelfish came up, it could be that (If it is that then that’s a VERY nice angelfish even as an adult).

Do you expect any of your angels to outgrow the tank? Other than angels what else do you have in there?

Nice tank by the way!
Thanks @Zionas ! I just purchased a 220 gallon because I they will outgrow my current setup in a year or so. Besides my angels I have a gem tang. I plan on getting a couple more angels once I get a bigger setup.
