I don’t really see the lighting or flow challenge compared to a regular reef tank with rocks as shelves , and different depths from light to rocks .

I would not trust any trigger! I watched my Niger swim around the tank and knock my sanils off the rocks. If they lande upside down they were gonners. My guess is if you have a trigger and dead snails in your tank......well you know what the cause is now.

My LFS has a tank they're setting up that I think I might want to replicate in the future if I go peninsula instead of in-wall [when I make my "big tank" upgrade].

I said no; they seem a bit kitschy to me, and once the novelty wore off, I think I would long for a more standard set up.

Another reason I would not prefer one, I think it would be difficult to properly scape, light and adjust proper flow....just too much work for any reward it may give, IMO.

Simplicity, and a clean, relaxing look is what I prefer.

im not understanding the wasted space idea? example. my next peninsula is planned to be 72x36x24H. but may do 72x48x24H then drop down the last 24" to 36H.... actually get more space..
I think the wasted space concept is that you could have a full 72” long tank at 36”H because the tank is taking up that much space either way…..so you’re losing almost 60 gal of volume going the drop off version (if I did my math correctly; 24x48x12/231)

oh i guess if u look at it that way.... im looking at it backwards as my plan is 72x36x24 but if i do a drop off i can have last 2 feet 36 deep and have a nice 36x36 viewing panel. i think it would look sweet from that angle.

This one is very nice and I can appreciate it but it’s not for me. The maintenance on the deep end would be difficult. I just like the simplicity of a regular tank.

Wouldn't the shallow part be where the skimmer and all the sump workings be located? You STILL need space for that stuff regardless where you put it. I guess with that size tank you would be plumbing into another room.
