Hi all, this is my first post so apologies if I have not done this correctly??

could anyone help me with the type of algae this is on my sand bed and how best to get rid of it?

phosphate: 0.08(a little high and working on it)
Nitrate: 5ppm
Rodi water used reading at 0 TDS.
All fish accounted for
Oversized skimmer for the size of my tank

I have good flow in my tank. Not really any algae on my rocks. Tank has been running for about 2 years.

I use a tirkey Bastet weekly to blast it, and within a couple of days it is back.

Looks like simple diatoms. Just a part of the tank. Likely due to the elevated phosphates.
Do you have any sand sifting fish and inverts? They usually keep the algae from settling on the bottom.

Thanks for the reply. Other than a bunch of snails and a few cleaner shrimp no sand sifting fish.

Look into nassarius snails. They dig through the sand. They won’t eat the diatoms but they do help to make it look clean. Gobies are also good for this purpose.

Thanks yes will definitely get the snails. A bit concerned with a starfish as I have 2 bumblebee shrimp in the tank to rid my asterina starfish problem!
