I just recently noticed that my Refugium and skimmer chamber in my sump have probably thousands of these. All over the glass, skimmer, all of my macro algae etc. I’m assuming they are pods of some sort- but I haven’t added any for months and never saw anything until the last couple weeks. They seem to have exploded overnight. I don’t really notice anything in my display tank. I have a 110 tall and 40 gallon sump.
Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!

Ghost worms, you'll notice they inflate their heads to engulf things as they move around. I've heard they can sometimes irritate coral if they are on them but I've yet to see that, otherwise harmless micropredator that'll be looking for copes.

Thank you! I’m relatively new to the reef world and somehow never even heard of these fellas before. I don’t see any at all in my main tank- just in the sump. Should I try to “thin the herd” as much as possible?

I O! Thank you for the reply- I’m relatively new and I hadn’t encountered anything about these fellas yet.
They probably won’t be the last surprise popping up as you go along. It keeps this hobby interesting!

Salt water is my favorite because of the prevalence of surprises to be honest, and yeah you might just cause they can be an eyesore but I've seen them more kind of like salt water hydra or other animals that usually only thrive in brand new tanks so you could just leave em and they may peter out on their own

Ok thanks! I’m doing a water change today so I’ll just suck some of those bad boys out. They haven’t made it to the display tank- at least that I notice but I do have a 6 line wrasse- and did have a blue sided wrasse til it decided to try to go for a walk last week- that eat just about anything they can find.

are they moving around? The pictures are out of focus so it is not easy to see. I see at least several that are pods of several types and several sponges. But I done see any flat worn, the dread orange type or white ghost flatworm
