Hi all, so I fort I'd been doing quite well. Corals are growing BTA has split water parameters are good and stable. Then today I came to do my water change and nocked over my rock work made a mess of the tank and found under one of my rocks want looks like a big patch of mould

I also have a lot of these sponges growing

Any idea how to remove them would be appreciated

My sponges break up in high light and high flow, but mine are a pale blue color, so the effectiveness may vary for you. Other wise I’d just go at it with like tweezers and a brush. Also my anemone shrimp will slowly pick at it .

With no help from me, I have sponges in many areas of my systems. Yellow, green, blue, red, black white, orange. IMO, all are good. If they start to encrust over/too near a coral just trim them back. A sign of a healthy system IMO.

If there good for the tank and he didnt place them how did they get there, new guy here so just asking

They come in on live pieces of things brought into our tanks like frags and snail shells. It’s how everything gets there lol like bryopsis or corraline.

Personally I don’t let sponges take hold in the lit areas of the tank. They can have the sump lol

I think I'd be happier to have them out of sight any suggestions how to Keep them out of DT and in the sump

no suggestions per se, they will grow mostly in dark areas anyway like in sumps or under/behind rocks. manual removal is best. theres really no way to "control". they will keep themselves in check for the most part. Also, its a good problem to have lol The white/off white/clear ones are the ones I refer to above with allowing them to grow.
If i cant see them looking into the dt, Im fine with it (unless theyre the red ones that grown between zoa/paly polyps). I pull those immediately because they can strangle poor polyps lol

I consider them to be a normal part of a healthy reef tank. I leave them to grow wherever they want to.
