Does a DIY 5 ft tall protein skimmer count as a BIG purchase?

If not I also purchased a HOB protein skimmer this year, but it is lacks some of the features I wanted (like keeping skimmate off my floor).

Purchasing these now because I setup a new tank this year.

Tunze 9430 dc to replace/upgrade my 9410 dc.
This is it today skimming on day 2.
