I spent way too much money :(

-Red Sea Reef Mat 1200
-Hanna Salinity & Temp Meter
-BRS Kalk & Mag
-Geo's Reef Super Silent Extreme CR818 Calcium Reactor
-Apex PM1 (x2)
-Apex pH probe (x2)
-Apex FMM
-Apex Energy Bar 4

Still trying to decide on a Reefdose 4, CarbonDosser, and the 20% off Adaptive Reef control boards.

What have you bought or plan to buy?

Has anyone come across any amazing deals on non-mainstream sites or on non-reef specific sites?

I bought the avast plank feeder that BRS put on sale.

There isn’t much I feel I need right now. The forums marketplace has better deals all year long ;)

I bought a bunch of corals from SBB and fraghouse, probably looking to add more on turkey day. Lots of really nice acros for decent prices out there.

Has anyone seen anywhere that has Spectrapure replacement ro/di items on sale? Looks like Spectrapure.com hasn’t started any Black Friday sales yet.

Any reason why it has to be spectrapure? BRS replacement filter is on sale and can be used with spectrapure rodi unit

Idk about him but the spectrapure max cap rodi lasts me absolute ages.

I remember someone posting about the mix bed ratio brs being all out of wack. Can buy them separate though to get around that.

Spectrapure costs a lot more so I wonder if it evens out even if you have to change BRS filters more often

Well my last one lasted 2 years! It was awesome.

BRS just bulk buys and sells it. Not sure where their source is.

I figure spectra-pure makes their own and specializes in this. That’s how I justify it, that and it lasting so long. I do buy them during sales. Each cartridge comes vacuum packed and all that so they don’t go bad In storage.

I don’t think I’m losing money anywho, just bigger cost initially. They advertise it as lasting 3.5x vs normal capacity and I have found that to be true.

Based on BRS and Spectrapure's media reactors looking identical (minus some minor differences on the stickers), as well, the fact that pretty much every other major online aquarium retailer stopped carrying Spectrapure after BRS bought out Marine Depot (so assuming they must have some kind of exclusivity/non-compete contract...aka monopoly lol), I suspect that some or all of BRS's RO/DI materials come from Spectrapure, but I don't have any other info to 100% confirm if they are identical or even the same grade. Given that, I will continue buying Spectrapure, even if more expensive, because they are the established leaders of the RO/DI industry.
