I'm currently in the early stages of what will be my 180g build. Most my equipment is chosen but I can't make up my mind on what sump to run.

Usually I'm all about water volume and fitting the largest sump possible under the tank but some of these sumps seem so well planned out and efficient Im tempted to with something smaller like a GEO sump or Trigger or custom by AA.

Then there's the price. Do i want to spend close to what i dropped on the display for something thats going to be hidden under the tank?

So lets see those sumps here at R2R! Please include:
Make
Display/sump ratio
What you look for when sump shopping/requirments you want met
Any other sump knowledge and or experiences youd like to share!

Main issue im running into is finding a sump at a decent price that accepts 3 - 1.5" drains

I meant to have other* as a poll option. Maybe a mod can correct it?

I have a 190g display and I run a Synergy Reef TS-44. They may be able to accommodate 1.5”

Mine is an Elite Aquatics. One of the few manufacturers that builds standard off the shelf models, but will still do custom work and make your sump any way you want it. This is mine before it shipped. You can find the off the shelf sumps at Premium Aquatics (maybe other vendors now too), but he builds custom tanks from his Facebook page (since he now supplies vendors, he doesn't sell through his web site any longer). I have a Trigger Triton but have never been happy with how things fit and work under my tank. While it works fine, the ways things are under my tank is very unsatisfying. I've ordered a Lifereef system with a refugium. I can't wait to get my sump area cleaned up and better laid out and hopefully easier to maintain.

Good to know! That was actually a front runner for me due tonthe large fuge area. I dont practice triton method but do like the sump design

Sump ties in real nice with equipment. Killer setup!

Enjoying the Seamless Sump system by Custom Aquariums— just took a quick photo for now— will have to do more of a full ‘write up’ down the line for anyone interested. They are very versatile.

I found myself in the same situation a few months ago and decided to go with @Crystal Reef Aquatics for my sump. It was amazing all the little things they thought of that I didn’t even think of myself until I started setting it up. Here is mine in action!

I looked for size, cord management, well thought out places for probes and dosing, bubble management, multiple mechanical filtration options etc.

The important thing for me was that I refused to cut corners. My sump is permanent and is the lifeblood of my system. To move or remove it would mean draining my tank or cutting it out. I wanted something that I could try anything or any method of filtration without hacking at my sump.

I guess the way I could describe it is “elegant” like a black tie affair. Oh yeah it also by default handles 1.5” drains with ease and comes with the bulkheads to do so!

Initial plan for the 150g but am going bigger now since I have the basement to work with and will be using a common sump for both aquariums. This was based on a Glasscages 50g long.

There is no doubt about this SCA 150 build its going to be EPIC! I am running all GHL dosers and a new P4 controller, AI Hydra leds, with a pair of either Nero5 pumps or a pair of Ecotech MP40QWD's.
I will be starting my build thread as soon as I place the order for the sump on Friday!
