Fish! I went to hawaii and went snorkeling and saw all the colorful fish. My fav was a yellow tang. Then I went suba diving later there and I knew I wanted to keep them in my tank. Later found out about coral

Fish initially, although now I hardly watch them. I'm more interested in the corals instead. Fish are just coral food producers.

Are we talking about the hobby as in fishkeeping as a whole, or reefkeeping specifically? I started out with a freshwater tank because of fish. However, corals are what brought me to the salty side.

It was fish...I don't think I saw corals at my LFS back in 1980..they had cool things like octopus and stingrays.

In 2000 when I started up again it was coral.
