What else do you run on your nano tank (Biocube 32 here)

Out of curiosity what is everyone running on there nano tanks.

Chamber one for me is heater
chamber two InTank media basket / tunze protein skimmer
chamber 3 is my return pump / ATO

My question is there anything else I can throw in / on this tank that you or someone you know is running and have seen great results with

I recently added a C02 scrubber to my 25 lagoon... But I always struggled with low pH.

I had my heater in #3 but any time the filters began to get slightly dirty I noticed the temperature in the tank was also rising so I wound up moving it to the tank to get better/more consistent flow over it. I am not using a controllable heater though. I will probably add an ATO, and I would like to have some kind of in-tank UV in the third chamber, as well, so I could run it if I needed to, but I need to do more research. Recently added a red mangrove to the tank as well.

@Smirkish Id recommended buying a cheap drop-in instead. I have the "green killing machine" that I got from Petco years ago and its perfect for my 25 gallon when a UV is necessary. Running a UV constantly in our Nano-tanks just isn't practical and may do more harm then good, or nothing at all.

@mdrieder I was talking about one of the in-tank/drop in ones. I don’t want to continuously run it, just would like to have it if I need it and contemplating options without a sump. I saw the green killing machine while looking and it’s actually the one I have seen used the most on here, I believe.

I had dinos break out in the tank when the green hair algae that was on the rock I added from my Reefer initially started to recede, and I don’t want to have another outbreak and not be prepared. I know a lot of that is finding balance in the tank with beneficial bacteria, but I’d rather have a safety net in place if that makes sense. Bloody Evo is 1/10th the size of my other tank, and 10x as big of a headache, lol. When you ran your UV how long were you doing it/what for? Were you doing it at night only?

My tank is only 4g.

Chamber 3 return & ATO.

Super simple. If I have issues with water color and cloudiness might run carbon (chamber 1 have a media basket) or I just do 100% water change ( close to it more like 90%).

May be a bit of overkill. I'm in the process of getting a larger tank.

1st chamber- aquamaxx 1.5 hob
2nd chamber in tank with floss on first tray. Carbon bag on 2nd tray.
Marine pure on 3rd tray

Apex prob holder in send chamber and under the holder I have a pump running my aquamaxx hob media reactor for gfo.
Also in 2nd chamber I have my trident line.

3rd chamber has ato line and sensor, dosing lines, small wave pump to mix up dosed chemicals and heater.

Running a radion g5 blue and reefbrites

My 3g has a aqueon in tank filter extra small model and the aqueoun flat heater for like 3 or 5gals. Lol.
Tank is wet with rock.
Debating overflow and sump or hob skimmer. Idk.
Think ill add a jaebo slw 5 or a hydor pico powerhead.

Thanks! I went with the apex EL. I heard salinity can be inaccurate from time to time. So saved some money and some stress from chasing my salinity readings.

@temple2101 - How is that chamber 1 still working out for you? Any chance you could send me a pic? I'm setting the IM 50 now. What floss are you using, how did you stack it? What bags are you using for the ROX carbon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture as I just recently upgraded and am no longer running this setup. Having said that, it worked fine for months while I was using it. I used inTank filter floss that I cut to fit the top section, ROX carbon in the middle in a Red Sea media bag and the Marine Pure balls on the bottom in a BRS media bag. Everything was easy to remove to change/rinse. Good luck with your setup!

I know this thread is a little old, but it's worth chiming in on.

My EVO 13.5:

• Chamber 1 - InTank Media with floss on the top, chemipure blue (2 nano packets) in the middle, and fluval biomax
• Chamber 2 - Live rock rubble for added filtration. I thought about turning this into a refugium, but it just doesn't seem like I could grow enough chaeto to have an impact.
• Chamber 3 - Return pump, heater, and ATO.

I honestly wouldn't do much more than what you're doing. Maybe you have enough room for a little fuge. Maybe some rubble for added filtration/pod habitats. But you should be pretty good with that.
