What filtration does your Fowlr tank run, especially high density tanks.

In macau and Hong Kong, people and fish stores here use ceramic rings, filter sock and skimmer. Around 1 liter of ceramic rings for 10 liters of water. Some do use protein skimmers too. Since reef tanks here in Macau aren’t very popular people here love fowlr tanks. I really want to know how other people from other countries keep a lot of angels and fangs in their tank.

I use a large skimmer, and filter socks. I don't use biological filtration like ceramic rings, but all my aquascape is made up of live rock, I run carbon periodically.

I believe the recommended ratio is 1lb of rock per 1 gal of water. I only have about 100lbs of rock in my 300gal, but I supplement with several marine pure blocks in the sump. I also run an algae scrubber, filter roller and skimmer.

I have a Bashsea sump with filter socks, skimmer and refugium on my tank. I'll occasionally run a cannister filter with either Carbon or SeaChem Purigen or HyperSorb to clear things up a bit.

if that's your tank i'd highly recommend putting rock in there or not adding anymore fish. fish need places to hide

is this how tanks are setup where you live?

i mean no offense, but i don't think watching the fish in there would even be interesting?

I really have noticed some differences in fish keeping in Asia vs america or western countries. People in Macau have super densely tanks And use ceramic rings plus skimmers mostly for their fish only system. I have got to know a couple fowlr tank owners with around 15 large angels plus other tangs and butterfly fish in a 300 gallon tank. The most amazing thing is the last fish added to this tank was over a year ago. I would love to share pictures but I hope people don’t give too much hate about my friend’s tank.

yeah i knew super densely packed tanks were a thing in asia, but i didn't know setting them up literally bare was a thing

i won't comment on the ethics of a tank like that, i just don't know if i'd enjoy watching it. i have a pretty densely packed tank myself, but there's rock and coral in there so the fish are cruising around behaving naturally. what do those fish even do all day? there's nothing natural about that tank. pretty fish tho

are corals not imported there?

We consider fish here our pets, so we set up our tanks with their needs in consideration; that's about as nice as I can be on tanks like the pic above.

I have high nutrient fowlr tanks and my key to filtration is a refugium, you can use macro algae in a reactor or refuge or an algae scrubber to get similar results.

Over the past 3-5 years corals were really hard to get, like really really hard. Selection was minimal all the coral came from china. Well for myself I am not even going to think about have a tank that packed because it’s really abit crazy.
