I’ve heard mixed reviews on them being reef safe or not? I want one really bad, was just looking at them tonight.

I wouldn’t call them more risky than your dwarfs.

Sometimes they are rude and sometimes they are well behaved members of reef society.

Try one!

I’ll give it a shot, i’ve been working on getting my FlameBack out for over a year now… he’s a punk. My tank is 6 feet long 4 feet tall so sort of difficult even with the floating trap. Let me know if there’s any others you recommend! Thanks!!

Halichoeres chrysus is pretty blinding yellow and when they turn male they get bright orange edging and neon green and orange on their heads. Reef safe and eat pests, sand sleeper.

There are some beautiful wrasses out there you could add
I would love to add wrasses, I have been wanting to start a Fairy Wrasse group… but here’s the thing. About a month ago I threw in a Pin Tail Fairy Wrasse roughly 3 inches and he went straight into a rock and died the next day, I said mhm okay let’s try again, 2 weeks ago I threw a Orange Back Fairy in and it disappeared and I haven’t seen it in 2 or so weeks since I added him. I do not know why I am having bad luck with Wrasses, I have always wanted to start adding them!! Let me know if you have any advice

I was looking at them the other day, any cons? Also, can you have multiple yellow wrasse together or just 1? And can they mix with Fairy’s if ever do have luck with Fairy’s down the road? Thanks for the help!!

Adding wrasse to a tang heavy tank can be difficult. You may have to go for the tougher wrasse that are not invert safe. Looking at warm colored wrasse here are some suggestions.

Halichoeres sp

Like Halichoeres chrysus also look at H leucoxanthus, H garnoti, and my personal favorite H iridis. These wrasse are generally tough but invert safe and peaceful.

Coris gaimard
Or like I call it the galaxy wrasse. This is one of my favorite fish as they are a stunning orange with blue “stars”. Big but in my experience peaceful but definitely not invert safe.

Thalassima lutescens

The “real” banana wrasse lives alongside tangs in bustling reefs. This is about the toughest wrasse you can get but it may come with an attitude.

Harlequin tuskfish,

Red breasted Maori

Hogfish, Bodianus anthoides is my favorite

They can mix with fairy’s. No real cons imo.

So I kept multiple radiant wrasse which is similar. It worked for a few years and they spawned but eventually both turned male which is common. Then I had to remove one due to fighting.

I personally gave up on fairy’s and flashers due to the fact they are spazes and can be easily intimidated and suicidal. They are also shorter lived as brightly colored males are usually what is offered. Just my personal opinion.

I don’t think the flashers would do particularly well being added last to your stocking list.

Yeah I definitely would need invert safe, I have a sand sifting star fish, 2 pin cushion urchins, 2 cleaner shrimp, nassarius snails, turbo snails, blue and red leg hermit crabs. Lots of inverts lol

Out of all these, could you list all that are invert/reef safe please!

Only the first kind of wrasse he listed is invert safe lol all the others munch on shrimp, crabs, and snails!! Melenarus wrasses are so pretty. The one I had was invert safe unless you were a fire worm

Also adding the purple and yellow with the sailfin might not be possible depending on how big your sailfin is! Mine was a terror to new tangs. Broke a (home made) acclimation box and murdered a scopas I tried to put in with him. Also killed my vlamingi one day, chased her to death
