What Happened to This Coral - Should I get Rid of It?

One of my corals completely transformed into something else? Rest of my corals are thriving. What happened and what should I do?

Looks like it died and algae took over.
How long did it take to go from pic 1 to pic 2?

If it blows off its algae/cyano. I would suck as much out as you can and remove the rest.

sorry i thought was over night, looked like dead tissue , just pull and frag slightly into live tissue,save what you can...

Almost looks like the hairs are coming out of the polyps.

More than likely algae then.

Is anything close to it that could have nuked it via warfare? Or was this a slow decline?

My suggestion would be to remove entire piece, frag and good bits that are left and try to save them. If you clip them above the damage and glue them to a frag plug, they may recover.

Other than that, we need to work to find out the cause.

Was a slow decline and then morphed to this. Nothing else in my aquarium impacted.

Could be multiple causes, but as long as everything else is doing fine, I suggest fragging anything still alive and removing that piece. I would also dip it, just to see if anything comes off of it. You can dip the dead part in whatever, as you want to kill any baddies and have them fall off if they are present.

The cuttings I would do a reef dip of some sort (many that work) and then iodine after. Just be sure to rinse the frags in old tank water before putting back in tank.

I will say, it could have just been a colony that tanked out for no reason. I have had it happen in the past, frags recover and gorw bigger than original colony was. Being as everything else looks good, hard to nail it down.
