I like the saying, "If I had known I was going to live to this long, I would have taken better care of myself."

Just turned 55, trying to lose a little weight and get more exercise. My grandparents all lived into their mid 80's and one grandmother just turned 97 last week.

I’ve known this guy for 30 years.
Chiropractors aren’t medical doctors. My own personal experience was trying to rush a sciatica issue so I could get back to work faster. Chiropractor popped my hip and made things beyond worse. I couldn’t walk upright for a month and the pain was doubled. The chiropractor shrugged his shoulders and asked for my payment when it was said and done. One of my closest friends is an orthopedic surgeon. He’s given me solid medical advice for years. I should have just accepted that it would be a slow process.

Go see a sports med doctor that is back specialist. They will do an mri and figure out what nerve it is and what is causing it. I am speaking from experience as what worked for me.

Two issues a few years apart
1) pain in lower leg - caused by inflamed nerve lower back (disk number 4 I believe) I was able to walk but it would not go away. Steroid shots in back worked.
2) pain in thigh same leg but 2 years after the first issue. After 3 weeks was unable to walk, sit, lie down. Extreme pain in thigh and lower back. Oxi-codone did nothing, New mri showed a nerve sac near disk 5 was inflamed. Steriod shots and 2 months PT. The nerve had retracted so far back away from my thigh the muscle was 90% gone. Took about 3 months to get any feeling back in my thigh. 1 1/2 years later, I had most of the strength back in my leg.
Note: Now I can ride my bicycle 150 to 200 miles a week .

I recommend a quality massage :)

Chiropractors only address the skeleton. But overused muscles are what’s pulling your skeleton out of wack in the first place...your chiro can adjust you all day, and those same muscles will pull the same bones into the same places as before.

obviously the best case is to get massage on a regular basis, in conjunction with seeing a knowledgeable chiropractor. The best offices will have both, so they can communicate with each other :)

however, as others have stated...serious medical issues can be made worse by both massage and/or a chiropractor. Probably should not take medical advice from reefers ;)

i’ve learned that traditional pain meds don’t work on nerve pain. it’s a whole different med like gabapentin.

I can relate to your pain. In 1999 I fell 43 ft and broke my back in 3 places. Had spinal fusion done was in hospital 9 months, physical therapy another 18 months and surgeon said I would be lucky to walk again. Met a guy in Houston who was 3 time PKA kick boxing champion who taught me how to properly stretch. (Surgeon to this day says that's what made me able to walk again) Long story short, stretch, take your time, ask for help (if needed) - you'll live a long & happier life.

Many people say that chiropractic is a pseudoscientific medicine but on the other hand, many of my friends really felt the result. Don't know what to believe in.

I have 3 ruptured disks in my neck. The orthopedic folks wanted to fuse them. I opted for a steroid procedure and a Tempurpedic mattress. I'd been going to the chiropractor 3x a week. No pain meds except otc. I haven't been to the chiropractor since. The down side is, I immediately needed reading glasses after the steroid procedure.
