What has been your single biggest "haul" from a sale event or reef show?

How many corals have you purchased in a single sale or reef event?

  • 1-4 frags is the most I've bought at once. (If this is you, you probably just got into the hobby...)

    Votes: 88 24.3%
  • 5-8 corals in a single take. (Ok. You show major restraint.)

  • 9-15 corals was my biggest haul. (A worthwhile take for sure.)

  • 16-20 corals... (NICE HAUL! You definitely got carried away!)

    Votes: 42 11.6%
  • 21-29 corals in a single event. (BOOM!! You know how to party!)

    Votes: 19 5.2%
  • 30+ corals in a single haul... (Ummm...you probably had some 'splaining to do...)

30+? Dang! Most I've ever bought at once was 6 as a bundle (on sale cheap). I thought I was doing well. lol Usually it's one or 2 at a time.

I'd love to fill my tank with lots of top-shelf acros (or even one!) but retirement doesn't pay that well so I have to be more strategic...and wait longer for the little boogers to grow up. :D

I think my biggest haul was 7 frags at a small downtown coral show. But, I’m 90% sure I’ll be going to Chicago Reef-a-palooza and would like to break that record.

I just broke down my 50 gal cube due to a move. I listed my livestock for sale and a local reefer came and bought me out. According to my list, there were 59 corals in the tank, about 1/3 were FULL COLONIES. It was crazy. He used it to complete his 220 gal he just set up. While it wasn’t my haul, he sure made out with a ton of corals and for a great price!

man... i think last year here... there were a couple of back to back sales. I had over 100 frags... i ended up having to buy 4 extra (XL) frag racks just to hold them while I was prepping for placement.

I'm in a other vote situation. I buy 1-5 frags at a time, but been in the hobby since '88. The frags I buy are each in the 500.00 to 3.5k each though too.

I haven’t really bought much online but on more than one occasion I’ve bought at least 5 frags from a local swap. Hopefully I’ll be doing it again in a couple of weeks

yikes.. I'd like to see pics of your tank!
The new one that's up and running is a 400g part of a 1200g system going fully online in the next few months. It got wet on newyears eve. Here's a pic of it a few months ago though.

Mine was my first and only show so far reef dreams 2019. Haven't had a chance to go back. Hopefully next year I can make it.

6 was the most in one buy and it wasn't because I didn't want to get more. But I have concerns about mass acclimation and introducing too many [anything] into a tank at once.

Yep, less than a year in and I haven’t purchased many at a time. I have however gotten a bunch of stuff from tank tear downs and other hobbyists surplus.

1. Being the macroalgae enthusiast I am, I have purchased a whopping ZERO corals throughout my time as an aquarist, so I cannot answer the poll.
2. I get most excited when some incredibly rare macroalgae goes on sale on eBay.

Last show/event I was at was RAP Chicago 2019. None last year due to Covid
At that show, I bought two frags and 14 colonies = 16

I bought a three polyp frag of sunny Ds that turned into about 20 polyps. I also bought a three polyp frag that turned into almost two hundred in the same year. $$$ Then I the tank death that made me lose several thousand polyps plus all the coral that I love. I kept the tank alive with three fish and some mushrooms or anemones for a couple of years before my GF decided that she had too much of me barely putting in enough effort to just keep it alive and got a tank guy to come out and fix the two main issues. One involved an ******* fish. The more important one was his skill for killing grey slime algae.
