I have a 20 gal reef tank and would like to add my first SPS coral to my tank. What would be a good starter coral? The tank has been up for 8 months.

TIA.

Digi or monti are pretty tough and a good intro. Lots of great ones…. If you want a recommendation on “names” I would get a bubblegum or green digi and a sunset or tequila sunrise monti. I have both in my tank and they’re great. I can snap some pics if you want but Google has even more awesome shots

good luck and happy reefing!

I put a 1" red monti frag in my 1 month old tank. It grew so fast, 2 years later it took over half my tank and sold half of it for $400. I'd go for some red monti any day.

Pocilipora , stylopora , red plating montipora
After years I still have a hard time with digi .

depends on space available some chalice are easy . And grow faster same characteristic as sps .

do yourself a favour and test everything everyday for a week
Just to get a baseline and understanding on what’s consumed daily . Keep in mind as you add corals and they start to grow , consumption rate increases

the reason behind testing daily is to try helping save money and to assure stability

good luck

Stay away from pocilipora, they will spread all over your tank.
My first SPS was Stylopora.
Good Luck
