Brand new reefer here, just picked up my first few corals. I love my hammer the best, and hope to get a torch soon. By the looks of many of the responses here, I’ve timed my entry into the hobby horribly if my favorite corals are euphyllia!

Also, the people who reply to the question of the day by arguing the premise are my absolute favorite. There’s not SUPPOSED to be a right or wrong answer - it’s a discussion starter!!!

Good approach! As ridiculous as coral prices are now for some things it is nice that a lot of the older "must have" more expensive coral can easily be found for $10-$20 and looks just as good as it did when it was "rare" and people charging exponentially more.
Do you have any examples of these? Thanks!

Do you have any examples of these? Thanks!

Would be a long list, but here are some examples in my opinion that are real nice coral but because so many have them and they are mostly older they are affordable....at least in my area. Some of these were pricey at one time relative to other corals available at the same time and some have always been affordable. Many of these in my opinion would be "high end" if they entered the hobby for the first time in 2021. In general the price of coral seems to have exploded in the past several years, but these are some that I think are great looking coral that can often be found relatively cheap.

Chalices - miami hurricane, several watermelon varieties, mummy eye varieties. Even a lot of the ultra premium rainbow chalices from several years ago can be found at much more reasonable prices now(though not $20)

Zoas - rastas, chuckies bride, utter chaos, watermelon, dragon eyes, green bay packers, etc.

Sps - tons of montis like sunset, purple haze, various rainbows, powerstar, reverse sunset, forest fire digi, bubblegum digi,
Setosa, seasons greetings, grafted cap, leng sy cap etc. Acros a bit harder at least in my area, but there are readily available colored acros for $10-$20 for large frags.

Other misc like hydnohoras (limelight, highlighter, etc). Lepastreas(john deer, etc).

So for a long time to me it was my RRC Rainbow Splice which I still dearly love:

However I must confess that the 3 Speciosa species that I picked up recently have stolen my heart

Mine would be my ricordea mushroom and my rock flower anemone. Because I have kept those alive.
They withstood my salinity swing when it was crazy off due to poorly calibrated digital refractometer.

The “best” coral is the one you enjoy keeping. After all, that’s why we’re in the hobby. To enjoy our tanks

To me "THE BEST" or Most Desirable corals are the One's I cant seem to keep alive, or hard to find a replacement I had.

It's kind of wanting to overcome the challenge.

These Photos are just Frag memories of past.

- Strawberry Shortcake (Might try one more time after at least 5 failed attempts)

- Ice Fire Enchinta (Tried 3-4 times, and won't bother ever again...Just too Sensitive SPS)

RR PapiChulo (Rare Find, looking to get one again)

Grown from this.
