I'm having an algae bloom, last water change was 6 days ago. My question is identifying the red, is it cyano or a type of algae?
Should be getting my phosphate test in the mail today, but other than that here's some info on the tank (been up and running cycle January)
54 gallon corner
Aquamaxx hang on with skimmer
Additional overflow
Light- ai hydra 32hd runs 10am-10pm
Ph 8.3
Ammonia-0
Nitrate and nitrate- 0
Salinity 1.026
Still learning as I've only kept freshwater tanks until I set this one up. Thanks in advance ~Crystal

a microscope is the only way to positively identify cyano vs dinos but a quick 48hr ChemiClean treatment can cure it if it's cyano and if it doesn't work then you know it's likely dinos

Thats a long light cycle which is 1 reason you are having algae issues. What is your ramp time on that? I would reduce to 8 hours with like a 30 min ramp.

I changed my lighting schedule some, lights on for 10 hours with ramp up and down of 2 hours, not running any, white or reds. I have 2 rainbow btas, so I didnt cut lighting out too much.
I bought 2 different phosphate test, an api & hanna checker ulr.
I did end up having Cyano, dosed with chemiclean this past weekend and it is gone. I believe my issue was my flow, adding another power head this week.
Still learning and doing tons of research everyday because this has ultimately become my hobby, i love it!
