I had a few of these things (I believe it’s a type of sponge), and now it continues to grow all over the rock. My dwarf angels done touch it, but I thought angels eat sponges? Any other idea or confirmation that it is actually a type of sponge?

Poriferan sponge and can be evasive if it gets enough nutrients.
Looks like yellow sponge to me,filter feeder )good guy)
Do note if it were yellow sponge- NOT good guy. Regular growth of sponges have usually been encouraged in reef tanks, but that yellow colored sponge is probably leaching toxins into your aquarium water. Sponges are known to release compounds in reef water that stunts, kills and even induces bleaching in stony corals.

Well, I learn something new every day. I didn't know that sponges were bad. Here's an interesting read:

Expose rock to air for a few minutes as sponge wont live when exposed to air . . OR . . inject air or vinegar into the sponge via syringe and it will start to wither away
