What do you think is the best fish for a frag tank? Wrasse? Tang? Clownfish? Blenny? Butterfly? I've seen all of these in frag tanks, but let's determine what is the best choice.

Please vote in the poll above and give us your reason in the thread here.

IMO you really need both an algae eater (tang if size permits, blenny if a smaller tank) and a wrasse for pests. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be an algae eater, preferably a tang.

I voted tangs. They're constant algae grazers, and nothing is more unappealing (other than pests) is sharing a picture of a frag infested with algae.

I vote for a wrasse. I would love to have a tang also but my 24x24x12 30G cube frag tank isn’t large enough for one. So I have a wrasse to get rid of any pests on my frags. Can’t use the frag tank as a quarantine either because it’s plumbed into my main system.

Dude I have the same exact set up and tank sizes and the same lights but I just added the aquatic life T5 fixture and it's made a big difference.

This is crazy I just purchased two black mollies for my frag tank. I had an Atlantic tang that got to big for my 20gallon long frank tank.

I purchased a canary wrasse for my zoa frag tank. Unfortunately it managed to jump through a gap in the lid and was toast. I purchased it to try and get on top of a zoa eating nudibranch problem but it didn’t seem to do much. I’ve got another canary and a six line arriving in a couple of days so I’m hoping one of them might help

Regular run of the mill black mollies sold at any lfs. They are sold in fresh water but can be converted to sw. They are a brackish water fish found in South America.

We've used Ctenochaetus tangs in most our propagation tanks(and display tanks) with great results. For algae.
And filefish for Aiptasia, a rabbitfish for Valonia and a wrasse or two for flatworms etc :)

at LFS, I always see the teeny tiny yellow tangs in the shallow frag tanks.
