I'm just starting to warm up to the SPS thing. I've been doing FOWLR and LPS/softies for decades, but lately I'm being drawn more and more to SPS. Well, not all SPS, but Acros specifically.

I've noticed that there are some staple type Acros that everyone seems to have, but in my searching I stumbled across some real stunners. So I am wondering... If you could pick 10, ANY 10 Acros, what would they be? It doesn't have to be based on price (but can be), or anything like that. I've noticed that some of the "cheap ones" are pretty dang cool too. Just any 10.

Do you base your choices on color? Ease of care? Do you just want whatever the new hotness is?

1. Cali tort
2. Palmers blue millepora
3. Slimer (color of choice)
4. Christmas mirabilis or red planet

These are my only MUST haves. I wouldn’t have a tank without them.

Honorable meantions:

SCOP
Ora Pearlberry
Hawkins

I really don’t get how acros are priced these days. It’s like the more expensive they get, the more unattractive they become.

ORA Acropora are probably a good place to start, as they have been maintained for decades in captivity. "Miyagi torts" also seem to be pretty hardy with low killability index. Once you have success with those, try others. Crucial for Acropora are alkalinity (reasonable) stability and nutrient stability (pick a reasonable range and stay there).

While I'm not a big fan of acropora. I do love the miyagi tort. I hardly have a top 2.

Great list in my opinion! I would add Milka Stylo and Pearlberry as well. Could have a tank with ONLY those corals and I'd be happy.

all i own or have owned, its hard to know how much you are going to like them until you grow them in your system. BC lasermelon and Cali tort as honorable mention, cali tort is easy and colorful, i have always liked it, lasermelon is sweet but still new and small. I have and have seen some newer ones that seem very promising but ill wait till i see what they look like grown out in my system.
