Hi reef2reef community,

so i got this Millepora from a friend 1 1/2 years ago. it was a 1" frag that already grow to a nice colony.
it was all furry from the beginning but got really nice colors over time.
on good days it has 1/2" long polyps / hair.

non of my other millepora has PE like this one :)

since i get asked for a name quite often i ask for your help now.
i can't find it online or in stores. no one seems to know about this strain.

whats your suggestion? is it even millepora?

thanks in advance
Alex

That is CRAZY gorgeous! It does look to me like A. millepora with super long polyp extension.

Thank you very much.
Ok, Millepora is what i thought.
does anybody know what it is called? a trendy name like "mango garden" "homewrecker" and so on? every acropora seems to have a "name" or not?

I dont believe that's a Acropora milliepora, can you post pics of it closed up?

I'm thinking it maybe a very happy compact selago possibly?

Incipient axials are forming commonly towards the end of the branches unlike milliepora,
Also radials are too far apart and more tubular than milliepora

I was thinking the same thing but was thinking if could be prostrata but the branching from the tips threw me off.
To me initially I was considering, prostrata as well, or maybe convexa, but looking at the tips where the tentacles arent blocking the view of the radials, I started dismissing milliepora, prostrata, convexa etc, etc. Then like you mentioned the Incipient axials forming close to the branch tips is another trait that made me think different as well.

Common designer coral I see some resemblance to structure wise as OPs is rainbow sherbet, which I'm pretty sure is A. selago.
Has those signature sawtooth like radial corallites, It can also be super fuzzy when happy and has the same single elongated tentacle per polyp some of the "fuzzy" acropora have

C. Eymann, I am going to have to get some pics to you of a few acros I have that I have been debating on the species.
On topic, selago is similar but the last updated colony shot shows thick branches which I never see on selagos but doesn’t count it out on the other hand. The polyps are so long it’s really hard to I’d using the last shot but the colony defiantly formed into a Mille looking piece. The first two pics would make me say otherwise though.

Op, can you get an updated shot and blow all the polyps back all the way so we can see the coralites and branch tips?
