What material does Red Sea use for their stands? Specifically the smooth outer part of it.
I'm planning on building a modern stand for a 180g and would like to incorporate that design feature into it.

I know they have a fancy name for it, but it just seems like a hard plastic coating to me . My first one I would pre-drill to put screws in it but my last one I set up I was able to run a screw straight into it without pre-drilling without any problem.

Isn't it just a laminate over some kind of marine grade particle board?

When I think laminate I think of the hard stuff on countertops. I don't believe that's what it is. Because it seems to be completely encased around the wood. No seams around the edges.
