This is my 3rd tank, but first tank larger than 20 gallons, so I have more wiggle room than before with fish.

It’s a 45 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump.

I already have an ocellaris clownfish and purple dottyback in my current (Fluval 13.5) tank, so I have them included in my stock list already, but I know for sure I plan on adding the dottyback last to the new tank. But other than that, what should my first fish be? And if you want to give your opinions on my stock ideas, please feel free to do so.

I plan on adding:
1 Fire Goby
1 Bangai Cardinal
1 Midas Blenny
1 Yellow watchman goby & pistol shrimp pair
2 Ocellaris Clownfish (this includes the one I already have)
1 Purple Dottyback (the one I have already and will add last)

I was thinking of doing the Fire goby first, but I don’t know what to do after that guy.

adding another clown could be nasty, so be sure that you know the genders of your clowns

fire gobies should go early as their timid

watchman and pistol at the same time next

How do I tell the gender of my clownfish? Is there a good way to do it?

You currently have a female, dominant or solo are always male.
Get the new one small to ensure it’s a male.

You are right to add the firefish first, you could probably add it with the cardinal or watchman, neither are too mean. Blenny could go later, they aren’t the nicest but not evil either.
Definitely clowns and dotty towards the end.

How could you tell lol
Candy are definitely less destructive, but I like my guy. The name Wall•E suits him well…

Very interesting! I wouldn’t know…my shrimp and goby still haven’t paired in the 3 months or so they’ve been together…
what kind of goby is that? anyways they'll find each other, the shrimp can smell the goby, they just have to interact face to face and then they'll know.

The sad part is they’ve literally stared at each other, yet they seem to show no interest in each other. It’s quite amusing how oblivious the two can be lol

My goby is an auora goby (Amblyeleotris Auora). Very colorful and active!

suggestion for you, put food on clip and see if you can bait goby to be near the shrimp

I can try, but they’ve even gone into the same hole, and have looked right at each other, and then one turns around. Worth a shot though. I feel like time will be my best ally in this case.
