Running carbon in a BRS reactor, GFO in an Aqua Maxx reactor with a Sicce 1.0 pump (with a valve for flow tuning) and just added a Tunze macro algae reactor.

In my 525XL I am running carbon (in the Nyos Torq reactor), just started using a CO2 scrubber (DIY) and a chaeto reactor (Reef Octopus LR150). Occasionally GFO when needed.

Bio pellets in one and Chemipure in another. I just ordered some Brightwell Purit to replace the Chemipure, I’ve heard good things about it.

I’m running an FX4 but i set it up like a media reactor from the beginning of intake to the outlet
1) sponges and foam
2) carbon foam with filter floss
3) small bio balls
4) huge stock of carbon
5) filter floss till i can barley close the lid
Works great with me plus i run macro algae in the tank for nitrate control as canisters and media reactors can produce it over time

I set up a nice manifold when I built the new system. Started running zeo mid last year now the reactors just sit empty and I don't use the manifold at all.

Just Polyfilter...I have rowaphos and carbon on standby just in case but never have to resort to it, the polyfilter, live rock, water changes and a daily addition of live Phytoplankton keeps my reef sweet...I like to keep it simple

I run carbon. But I do not use an reactor. All reactors I tried sucks for running carbon. A filter bag is way easier.

I actually started with an AquaMaxx reactor for carbon. But it has the same problem of Phosban and BRS reactor that, it can't hold the carbon down when only partially filled up. The carbon always pushed up the foam, then leak and got into the sump. Every time of changing media is a mess.

Filter bag is so much easier to work with. The cons is less efficient. But I only change carbon every 2 weeks or longer, but it probably got used up after several days. So having it to work slower, thus last longer, is not a bad thing to have IMO.

I run 2 reactors: (1) Dr. Tim's NP Pearls for nitrate/phosphate/silicate management and (2) Matrix carbon with Purigen. I use the the Lifegard Aquatics reactors with embedded pump.

I use this as well. Comes with pump, ready to go.
Real happy with its performance and easy change.
Carbon, 24-7.

1. What reactor media are you currently running on your reef?

660g: Calcium reactor and algae reactor. 135g : carbon and biopellet reactor

2. Why are you running this type of reactor media on your reef?

660g: Total coral care with CA and Mag
135g : to reduce chance of high phos, nitrates, cyano and diatoms. Tank has remained clear.

Does a calcium reactor count? Otherwise I don’t use media reactors unless ozone counts too.

Calcium reactor is obviously to replenish alk and calcium. Ozone is just to polish the water.
