I received my new GBTA yesterday, and after acclimating, put him in a nice little glass container on the wall of my DT where my clowns have been hosting my ammonia alert.

They were immediately interested, and then they started picking at his mouth. I read on other threads that's petty normal when they're preparing to host, but today there are pieces of it floating all on top of the water, and the poor little nem still hasn't opened. I'm afraid they're going to kill him! Should I put him in an acclimation box until he opens and gets bigger, or is this normal?? This is my first experience with clowns hosting.

I appreciate any and all help! See pix for details. Note: I started with some rubble in the container and he attached to one piece, so there's a rock piece in with the nem in the pix.

Update: He didn't make it... If I had been more experienced with anemones, I would have known not to put him in my tank, given the way he looked when I first received him, but I guess that's what life is about... learning from our experiences.

Sorry for the loss. Clownfish typically don't mess with an anemone unless something is wrong with it, or they're oversized for the host anemone.

Thank you. Yeah, after talking to others, I was told it looked like he had an infection. That's why I think they were picking at him.
