Looking to upgrade my wave makers to Jacob sow. my tank is a 30g long 95cm/45cm/30cm getting one for the time being and will get another around Christmas time will the sow4 suffice or will the sow8 be overkill ? I’m running a mixed reef of lps and sps. I believe jebao/Jacod are the same company.

You can run sw-8 at lowest setting otherwise SW-4 should be okay

@vetteguy53081 you are the man!!! So two either side of the tank and I should be good? I’m torn between sow4 as I’m sure I’ll have to be running that at close to 100% as with sow8 I should get more longevity running at a lower setting.

I have two real cheap 2000lph ones at the minute that cost like £10 a piece by the time they gunk up they are probably pushing no where near that hence me wanting to upgrade I don’t feel there is enough flow throughout the tank

You may want to consider 2 slw-20. 1 on either side.
They produce more of a wall of flow instead of a beam that the sow do. You can set them to master/slave mode and have them work in sync, also the slw20m has a wifi app option if your into that.

I currently have a SOW-8 in a 40b and it does an alright job. I have a lot of rock structure in that tank, so I really need a second SOW-8 on the other end too.

Saying that, the MOW-9 is the newest (smart) version of the SOW-8.

If I was to need another SOW-8, I would get the MOW-9 instead.

That is defo an option as the tank is just over 3ft long but very narrow at around 1ft width 1.5ft high. now I’m really undecided :/

If you’re running two heads- Sw-4 will be your answer
If you think within a year you will go to larger tank, get the sw-8.
Then you can utilize them for new tank

I figured the slw line will give you plenty of flow, but not a harsh beam that could damage corals. This should give you everything your looking for.

I myself am a big jebao fan, I run 2 cp90s, 2 sow20 ,2sow15, 2 slw20, 4 mcd10000 ( closed loop) and 2 dcp20000 returns on my display. In my opinion anything else other then the abyss line are way overpriced.

SLW IS ALSO ok but there has been field issues with units not magnetizing after cleaning or running in reverse (reverse polarity)

I have 2 sow-8's on my 40b, one on half power and one on full blast. I'd definitely go with an 8 on the 30, the 4's don't seem to push much flow at all, I have one on a 29 biocube and it's barely noticable.

I have a 40b with an ow10 in one end and an ow25 on the other. I have them about 1/3 of the way down the glass pointed toward the surface paired in an alternating pattern. Pointing them at the surface the current spreads out across the surface and the effect is a poor man's gyre.

Looking like it’s going to be the sow 8 to avoid the magnet issue.

Yeah I reckon 2 sow-8’s on my 30g long should do the business on half power or even less

Can i get those dimensions in freedom units please??

The SOW4 would be fine. Or just get the 8, and use it when you upgrade.

I have 3 slw20's and a scp150, zero complaints. They just slow down a noticeable amount when they are dirty, so keeping up on maintenance helps with them.

Any difference between the Reef Surge 8000 and the Jacob sow8 apart from the Jacob being £28 more expensive ?

I’m not sure what freedom inches are as I’m in the uk I’m guessing you mean inches ?

length 37.402 inches
Width 12 inches
Height 18 inches

length 3 feet 1.402 inches
Width 1 ft
Height 1 foot 5.717 inches
