I finally ordered my peninsula reef tank today after many months of research. The dimensions are 84 x 36 x 28 tall and it’s about 350 gallons. I plan on stocking it heavily with larger sized fish, inverts and corals. I have a fish room that will be behind my tank to house all equipment, including the sump, so size is not an issue. I know that sump size is not an exact science but would like some opinions. The sump I really like is made by synergy ( model sk72) and is 72 x18x18 and is designed for 2 Clarisea roller filters. I can have a custom sump made that would be a little wider. What are your thought? Thanks.

as long as it holds all the water when the power goes off is the main feature your cant live without in any sump.

some use tanks, some rubbermaids, some custom sumps, all can work. I've never ran a tank with filter socks or filter rollers, both scare me as im not home enough to maintain them.

Congrats!!
Two thoughts
1. Make sure you can get it under the stand. I wanted a larger sump but had to do it in two pieces given the stand design.
2. don’t underestimate the freshwater reservoir. I go through ~15 gallons a week in my 350g with evaporation. I wish I spec’d a 40g instead of 20g in my stand.

I believe the sump holds 87 gallons. Being somewhat of a novice, I assume the sump is usually only about 40-50 % full most of the time?

My local tank builder is doing it for me. Concept Aquatics. Hopefully I have it in about a week or 2. If I remember I'll throw a pic up here. He thinks I'm crazy lol. I'm having him drill 1" holes in the section where the water returns from the tank, the skimmer section and the fuge section. Have them valved and plumbed together to my floor drain. Easy water changes with a pump in my mixing station to fill them back up.
