6' x 24" wide, depth isn't going to be a big deal, but within reason. He's gonna get up to a foot in length, he needs a bit of room.

I've always used liveaquaria. I believe their size recommendations are spot on. For the Niger, they recommend 180 gallon or larger.

The standard 180 is 72 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 25 5/8 inches.

Liveaquaria recommendations!

It is stressful to the fish and impacts their organ growth. I like my fish and want them in the best environment I can provide.

All small fish will fit in the smaller tanks, just giving you a heads up, he's gonna get very big. The growth rate all depends on what you feed them and how often you feed them.
