Using Reef Octopus NWB 200 int. Working like day one and it is running 2 years and one month 24/7, maintenance every 6 months cleaning. 180 g softy/LPS system.
Using a Tunze 9004DC in my 45 gal QT and a LIFEREEF on my 150gal DT. Both are good Skimmers. Was using a Skimz 203 sm on my 150 gal, also a good skimmer. Changed skimmer when I converted over to the Zeovit system. The system suggest not to use needle wheel skimmer for various reasons. I remember about 25 yrs. ago my brother a skimmer with an air pump and a wooden bubble marker on his fish only tank, he said it was a great skimmer. I would love to see a tread on bad skimmers and what makes them a bad skimmer. I think Skimmers are way over hipped and way over priced.
Deltec all the way regardless the model the design is flawless mine is external needs a Fred pump but really kicks so much that you will actually need to add nitrates back into the system since it pulls everything from the water colum
nyos quantum 220,very quiet and cheaper to run on my 700 ltr, than my old marine sources one, think its a bit strong for the tank as think its stripping the tank ,nitrates were below zero ,now rising back up since the skimmer has been switched off,sps looking better as well
SRO-5000 on my 180 display, 300 total water volume. I installed a Swabbie neck cleaner and this thing kicks butt! I get amazing skim production and now with the neck cleaner it performs at peak 24/7, I need only clean it when I can no longer see into the cup. I also made my own Skimatelocker from a 5 gallon bucket, a dual float switch and some silicon tubing.
I bought this skimmer from a friend and with the bubble blaster pump it works great for me. SRO skimmer get a lot of love but still I think it's underrated. For the price and dependability these things can't be beat. I may upgrade to the Varios-6 DC skimmer pump some day. If you buy new I would get the Regal skimmer with the DC pump because DC pumps are in fact better all around and more powerful.
Grey Seas Aquatics (pre-Avast Marine) Standard 12. Huge skimmer. 12 inch diameter and 3 feet tall. 2 RODC 5500s pumps on it for 4000lph air. I am going high bioload on this 180g tank.
