Listed as a checkered wrasse but Google photos don't match for either adults or young. Store said it came in as checkered wrasse and 5 different species go by that name.

Do you know the origin of this wrasse? It’s hard to tell straight away as there are 100s of species, some less known than others. I would also agree with Halichoeres hortulanus but the colours are throwing me off.
A less blurred photo will help too.

That's Halichoeres argus. I don't see those for sale too often. Nice find.

That is a beautiful male H. argus you have. Definitely a score from the LFS :)
Yeah I was going to turn this tank into a frag tank so im not sure if it will become its forever home or kick my melanaurus out of the living room display tank. The LFS had several of these guys listed as checkered wrasse. I just picked the one in the tank with the healthiest looking fish.

DT is a 55 gallon I want to upgrade to a 6 foot tank in next year or so. "QT" is a 4 ft 33 gallon.
Honestly, if the width is 16”+ then I would leave the Argus in the 4’ tank. That way you can enjoy both wrasses :)
