I found cyphastrea coral to be temperamental when it comes to water conditions. I had one that was growing great but went south fast, also in a new Evo. Your tank is new and I don't think it's the crabs, or any critter. Water quality and lighting are to blame here. That is RTN from water parameters and light.

The only suspect? Your phosphates are pretty high, you don't think that could be a cause?
I'm trying to deduce what is causing this. Phosphates are high and coming down( .04) I'm assuming it was the hermits or my emerald. It does not come through in the pic but these are chunks taken out of it. If it happens again while on the rack I will take the emerald off my list and start pointing my finger elsewhere

You don't need to listen to anyone if you don't want to, but this is textbook RTN. Your tank is less than a year old, putting any SPS in there is a risk especially in a smaller tank which can be harder to control nutrients and achieve constant stability that SPS need, AND your phosphate was sky high. My phosphate got out of control up to .3+ and my pink birdsnest RTNd on the tips.
