Hey guys, I have recently started getting a ton of algea I assume a hair algea of some type maybe be tops is no idea. Was wondering what you guys do to get rid of it before it completely takes over my tank. I have an urchin that won’t touch it , and the snails seem to avoid it as well

IMHO - thats not 'a ton'. And it does not look (depending on what you're talking about) like 'hair algae'. I would let it be.

The whole back wall Is covered and now it’s spreading to my rock. Just trying to stop it from getting out of hand

Can you show a picture of the back wall?
Can you scrape the back wall?

his last pic looks to be the back wall. Looks like hair algae. Probably has an imbalance in his parameters.
agreed - the back wall looks like hair algae.

I would re-check your parameters - and think about contacting reef cleaners - about the best clean-up crew. Then I would scrape the back wall - and remove it. Perhaps going from Down (sand level) - to up - so you can remove the algae

Also curious - what kind of lighting are you using - does it 'need' to be as bright as it is - how long during the day?

It’s an led only on about 5-6 hours a day and I had turned it up a tiny bit for the pictures

Her.. lol parameters seem decent tbh but im also still learning
Oh. Sorry about that. Lol. Sometimes we forget there are women reefers as well. What are your nutrient levels? And are they consistent? Also what equipment are you running I.e. skimmer, refugium etc. how old is your tank? Give us some details it will help to see where the problem may be stemming from. Also what’s your lighting schedule? To start, since majority of it is on the back wall make up some new water for a water change. And before the water change start scraping it off the back glass and syphon it out as you scrape it off. Then you won’t have so much to battle.

Pictures taken with BLUE light suck! Red is the first color that will disappear in blue light, just like diving down on a 20' reef. The red vanishes.
Take a pic with white light and we will be able to tell if its red slime.
