Hi im curious, has anyone tried this? what would happened to corals if we never turn off our lights? as you can see from my tank is dominated with macroalgae, i added some goniporas as well, at night i switched to 100% deep blue light with 0% white (v2 spectra knight), however i consider to use 100% white at night as well, so it would be like this

day:
deep blue 100%
white 100%

night
deep blue 100%
white 0% to 100%

It’s a bad idea. I don’t know the biology behind it, but I think corals need a photoperiod rest to release (toxins? CO2?). I don’t know. But I do think I recall reading about photosynthetic organisms needing to release something at night.

I’m guessing it would fry things. IIRC, most organisms use up the resources needed for photosynthesis resulting compounds (phosphate/nitrogen compounds) faster than they can absorb it and really only can use like 4-6 hours before needing darkness to restock those compounds. I could be wrong though.

I can tell you it is not good at all. I could tell you the sad story several years ago when the old fashioned mechanical timer got stuck "on" for what I think was several days in my coral QT tank. It was not good. Now I always make sure the timers are set to have lights out before I go to sleep so I can make sure they are actually off.
