What's a good protein skimmer for a 40 breeder reef tank with a eshopps rs 200 1st gen sump?

I currently have a Reef Octopus 150SSS Protein Skimmer that makes a lot of bubbles however it's not enough skimmate to go all the way up the collection cup and I'm guessing it's way overpowered for my tank size and the 8 fish in it which would be 2 clowns and 6 chronos. What would be a way better skimmer for my setup please and thankyou.

For my innovative marine 40 i like the tunze 9004 dc. Works wonders but dimension of my tank are different but maybe it would work for you

I had the IM Nuvo 40 with the bubble monster (IM's Protein Skimer) and it was horrible in that and on this so I upgraded to the reef octopus 150sss because it was too good of a deal to pass up and it doesnt do a whole lot for productive skimmate on my setup but it worked wonders for a friend of a friends 90 gallon mixed reef tank with a huge 40 gallon sump. I would like something that goes in the sump.

I’m running the coralbox 300+ in a RS75 on my 40 breeder.. it’s a great small profile skimmer and seems about perfect for my mixed Reef with 5 small fish. You would have a lot more room to work with in your RS200 ;)

I'm looking for a skimmer for my 40 breeder too. I was considering the NYOS 120 for the small footprint and high water level it can run at, 8-10". I didn't know about this Coralbox skimmer. It looks nice. The website doesn't have much info though. Can you help: what's the base footprint? and what water level can it run at?

I use reef octopus essence on mine, it does a great job. It was under powered for my 90g despite being jokingly rated for 180g tanks... it does a great job on my 40b.

I'm being offered a reef octopus classic 110 at a good deal so I'm wondering if that would still be over rated for my setup? Any ideas?

It has a big footprint, I’m not a big fan of that one. How many gallons is your system? That ones only rated for 75 and that’s being generous. That would do well on a 55g with a weird sump that somehow has tons of extra room.

@Hemmdog, my current setup is a 40 breeder with about 10 gallons of water in the sump I believe.

That skimmer looks perfect. It actually looks like your Venturi just isn’t pushed in all the way, twist it back and forth to be snug with the pump.

I have a BM Elite 5 in my 40B sump. The thing is a beast and crazy quiet due to its upgraded Sicce pump. It has a small footprint - it fits in the 8" section I made for it in my DIY sump. It says that the water line needs to be high, but it runs just fine on the standard 7-9" water line. If you need a stand for any skimmer you get, Reefing Art on Amazon makes great stands that adjust from 2" and up.

@Hemmdog, wow your a reef life saver lol.
After researching what a venturi is for my skimmer I compared pictures from my photo to a stock photo noticed the difference, went and pushed it down and boom skimmate started forming at the top. Such a relief that I dont need to get a new skimmer now. Props to you Mr Hemmdog!!
