Second Xenia below is not pulsing and looks sick. What could be the issue.

Mine don't always pulse. Just pointing that out. What are your water parameters?

No much changes. It was just a single frag and it keeps dividing itself for the past 4 to 5 months.

Yeah recently I change water every 15 days since last month due to busy schedule. But I do around 20 percent. It's a AIO 40G breeder tank around 30G display

Hi I am having almost the same issue with My Xénias, they had a boom in growth and multiplication, that I had to give some to a reefer colleague and now they are looking weaker.
This is something I found online:

“The xenia genus is susceptible to a periodic die off that seems to coincide with lunar events”

I don’t know if this explain [emoji4] but it’s the first autumn that I have them here [emoji4]

My huge growth of xenia was in end springtime

My parameters seams ok too

I also read that they like some little “ dirty water “ with organic food and a too clean tank may not be good for them [emoji4] who knows [emoji4]

And that there are some little crabs with the same xenia color that is hard to notice that harms the xenia

So I am also alert to see what it may be

This is how the look like, then they melt and die :-(

My PH is a little low 8,0 it seams xenia prefers 8,2 to 8,5

Hi Mali
I am glad they are
Have you done something different so they recovered?
One more question , can we know how is nitrates in your tank?
It seams Xenia don’t like to “clean “ waters

Hi,
Here are some points and lessons I learned the hard way:

1. Yes , they prefer more nutrient rich water
2. Once they grow, keep them in check, they like to take over
3. Be careful removing them, clippings will settle on other corals and burn or worse even kill them. I lost a very large torch that way.
4. I eradicated all Xenia from my tank. They look mesmerizing to beginners, but later become a problem!

Hi Mjp83
Thanks for the feedback
I know that feeling and I know how they grow and can take a Tank
This was taken in heir best period in my Micro Reef Tank

They can “fly” even to the walls and glasses of the tank

But in my case, as my Tank is a tinny one, I guess it delt itself with it, and Xenia started to die and all the left colony, ended dying without my intervention

I was just trying to understand how they behave in a Reef Tank

Hi again

From all you see in upper photos this is what is still surviving

I don’t know what made this, but all the other corals and fish are fine

They are melting :-( day after day and I just don’t know why
