As I finish out the cycle on my new tank...it made me think through on what I need to replenish in my own reefing closet.

What are your go to items to keep on hand? Emergencies or otherwise.

Things like carbon, etc. What's your go to stuff?

I keep a extra return pump, heater, and a cheap back up light (par38 bulb) for emergencies.

Coral dips are the bottles I took out most often. I have Revive, CoralRx, and Lugols.

I keep nothing per se (I mean I have extra RO filters, etc) and I have some heaters in reserve - but - in my tank - if one thing failed the other thing would be 'ok' until replaced (dual gyres), 2 lights, etc. If the return pump failed - there would still be flow - from the gyres. If the skimmer failed I would figure it out. If the heater failed (hopefully) I would be notified by apex. etc etc .. The redundancy is built in. I'm lucky because I can get a replacement for almost anything I want - so - I dont need to stock 2 of everything - I'm lucky

What I have and what I need are vastly different. That said, IMO, any serious reefer should have the following on hand:
1. back up return pump
2. back up heater
3. air pump, hose and airstone
4. phosphate remover
5. carbon
6. prime
7. extra hygrometer
8. Salt.. lots of salt

I try to keep couple Safety Stop at hand too. Using it to dip new fish before putting into QT.
For QT I kept Ruby Reef Rally. It's pretty useful and emergency dip. Also because my LFS don't carry it. I don't keep medicine at hand that my LFS regularly carry, like metroplex.

My favorite phos remover is lanthium chloride BY FAR. You add it and poof.. instant phos reduction.

Everyone is always talking about GFO. IMO the only good thing about GFO is that it does reduce phos. But there are more issues and risks than LC.
1. Its messy as hell. You need to rinse it.
2. You need a dedicated reactor or sock or something to run it.
3. It is rapidly depleated...or is it depleated, maybe? The only way to know is testing your phos.
4. You can add too much and crash your phos and your tank. How much is too much? Good question.

Bottom line you can measure and dose as much LC as you need to. It is quick, POWERFUL, and instant.

So that is my spiel on LC.

a buddy locally used it with great success. In the past ive just thrown some chemipure in and called it a day, but i found that reduced it too too quick.. ill have to do more research to feel comfortable with LC, but i like what i hear.
