Yeah haha that's why I say the planning part is fun because you can plan your gear and layout to minimize maintenance. Plus you don't half butt a build. A properly built system is much more enjoyable then a rushed built system. Too bad we can't get away with maintenance all together lol.
I agree with you, it took me 5 years to get things designed and built myself but mostly all I do is come home from work and head to the basement and watch the tank. Made my closet into a.fish room tight but works.

I'll admit I've lurked in this forum for quite some time. In that time, I've peered into quite a few threads, some, extravagant beyond belief! One thing I like the most about this hobby is the imagery, both fish and corals, and everyone's eagerness to share those beautiful images.

...so like the title reads, What's your one favorite thing about the hobby?

PIC's are ok with me, post-hem if ya got-hem!
I like the fact that in my living room in kentucky I can stare off at a piece of the far side of globe
My reef can be from any where I'm willing to put the time in to have

I love all those incredible sea creatures sharing their life with you, all crabs, snails, shrimps, seastars, nems, etc., and fish, of course, especially blennies who watch you...

The one thing that I enjoy most is the never ending changes in a reef tank or even fish only. Currently in my tank is watching my emperor angel transition and my clownfish spawning.

I love the challenge and the continuous learning. I dug deep into the brain spiderwebs to bring back things I learned in college and high school. I love learning about the different ways people keep their tanks. The world is your oyster. I've combined old-school and new-school methods, and nothing is right or wrong. It's fuzzy and magical and precise at the same time. Keeping an ocean in a box is work, but also a great privilege.
