I love the WYSIWYG aspect of LiveAquaria's Diver's Den, but week after week they list the same couple of species in the SPS and Maricultured sections. Seems like before Indo shut down I had no trouble finding interesting species like simplex, walindii, speciosa, donei, solitaryensis, efflorescens, turaki, echinata, and so on. What happened to all these uncommon/interesting species? Is it a result of the covid shut downs in combination with a slow reopening of Indo mariculture?

There's a good chance they do not have a wild CITES for Indo. Probably why the SPS section is all Aussie pieces. I think the people looking for and purchasing the corals you listed are far and few between these days. The mariculture farms are pumping out what people buy now.. Tenuis, Millepora, any species or variants that look good under blue with orange filter pretty much. There has also been a lot of new regulations set in place for Indo over the last few years and I'm sure that affects quantity and variety of what comes in.

The DD Aussie supply has been pathetic regardless of what Indo has done. It's the same 5-6 coral species up for sale. There were probably 20 or so to chose from a few years back.

Occasionally some Tonga pieces show up but that's it.

Was wondering the same thing.

Some of those species are still being maricultured, just check out whitecorals.com (Germany)
Maybe they're all being shipped to Europe ?

Glad it's not just me! Wish I could order from that site, they have a lot cool acros. Yongei, suharsonoi, caroliniana, carduus, loripes, abrotanoides, hoeksemai, etc. So what gives with the garbage selection and availability in the U.S.?

Is there anyone besides LiveAquaria that regularly sells WYSIWYG mariculture corals online?

I got in 24 mariculture SPS colonies a couple weeks ago, and always looking to bring more stuff in.
shoot me a message, here are some bigger frags, and I have full colonies left to.
still have:
A. Austera, A. Microclados, A. Milepora, A. Nana, A. Secale, A. Tenuis, A. polystoma.

Looking at some Valida, Efflorescens, Divaricata & Hyacintus this week.
Often cheaper than LA too - all the frags are $25-50, and colonies start at $150

Mari only does a few dozed different types of pieces. Wild has been pretty weak lately too.

You can bring in your own if you want to take the risk. You can even somewhat request what you want. This seems to be the best way to get the less common stuff right now.

Their prices are so out of wack it's not even worth contacting them. I went to look at their page at 30% off for frags they are still well above the selling price of very common pieces.

Their history of charging extreme prices for tenuis frags is a joke. I can't imagine the prices of those tenuis colonies you have pictured. Not to mention most are drab and pastel...........they only look good under fake lighting.

It's also like what was mentioned above.......no selection of acropora. One species is a poor selection.

If those are truly mari and people aren't just mixing terms (wild with mari), then those same pieces have shipped everywhere... so I hope that nobody purchased one thinking that they had the next Homewrecker on their hands. The mari facilities produce thousands of the same pieces for sale.

Vincent Chalias has said he gets requests for tenuis at a very high rate and imo it's why the selection on other acros suck. There are a ton of these getting shipped out to wholesalers and retailers. Everyone has them and most vendors try to hack them up and sell at 100+ or slap some stupid funky name on the coral and try to get $3-500.

Reefers need to wake up and stop paying those stupid prices. These are the same tenuis he has been bringing in for years. They just look different under all that heavy funky led light. It's gotten so ridiculous that even at the collection sites they have Leds over the vats to make these tenuis look over the top so they can get a piece of this "tulip mania" that's going on.

I don't want mari stuff anyway. If I am going to pay that kind of money, I would rather buy a for-sure known piece or take a chance with a wild one to get something cool. Mari was kinda nice when they were $40 a colony and could jumpstart a tank, but the bases filled the hobby with pests and I just avoid them now.

You get these tenuis colonies around $150 each. We just brought in 20…you could mistake any of them as homewrecker.

Good question .

I did see one a month ago .
it was pretty big and nasty mean .
Couldn’t put your hand in the tank without being atracked .

I also saw skunk clowns which I haven’t seen in awhile .
