I tried to get a comparison photo. It seems the purple hair algae just disappeared.
I did a few 5-8 gal changes. I think a total of 3. Twice I tried to pluck out the hair algae by hand. But it seemed to come back within 2 days.

I did 1 dose of Prime. I added some bio-reef. I did clean the algae scrubber. I did not know I had to clean that. It did have a lot of green stuff. I also took out some of the loose rocks and cleaned them. I did take the canister apart and kind of cleaned it. I did not know that had to be done once a week. I was told by the last owner once’s per year.

I really have not done much.

is this normal? Was this a cycling tank. Is this a sign of danger?
I see one of my Duncan’s has been closed for a few days. But I did move him. Everything looks ok.

That is cyanobacteria - it is kind of loose/slimey and not really attached to the rock. It can be blown off.

You may have cleaned up whatever was feeding it - the ammonia may be present from all the cleaning but some test kits suck.

What test kits do you use?

What lighting does the tank have?

Ammonia in the tanknis hazardous for your fish. 0 nitrates means your corals are starving.

I use API at home and go to the LFS for a scan disk. Since getting the tank in February it’s been balancing out.
So, this is not the dreaded hair algae?

It is a different type of 'algae' - well bacteria.

Green hair algae is also annoying but not that bad.

There are many types of pests in this hobby.

The API phosphate is pretty useless. The LFS readings, PO4 is a high. I like it around 0.08-0.1

What light do you use?

Light: I have been struggling with the setting of the fluval sea LED. This is my current setting.

What size tank is it?

I ask because the anemone looks bleached.

It’s a 75 gal. He does have a green hue. I am 100% sure petco sold him knowing he was not in good shape. The guy even said, “if he does not make it I will get you a new one.” He has improved. I am feeding him a little silver fish (small, no bones) about 2 times a month.

Those lights don't seem very powerful but I am not overly familiar with them, definitely keep a close eye on him.
