I have some white fuzz growing on the bottom of my rock (see photo) and I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out what it is? I tried searching but couldn't find a definitive answer. I am running carbon and GFO. Phosphates are 0 and nitrates are ~5. Tank has been running for a little over a month. I have been dosing vodka and MB7. Starting yesterday, I stopped dosing vodka based on the Item 5 Algae/Bacterial Reaction observations from this article...Probiotic Reef Keeping: MB7 and Vodka dosing instructions and tips. - Rimless Reef.

Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

Are they tiny sea fans? Looks a lot like the ones I have. They feed off of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the water.

It could also be a sponge, in which case it is likely beneficial.

Would any type of sponges wave with the current? The only sponges I have seen are more firm. Also, it looks like every rock in my tank has this stuff on the underside. I'm not doubting you as it could very well be a sponge but im just trying to describe it a little more so maybe someone knows exactly what it is.

Thanks!

Here is another pic of the fuzz on the bulkhead nut. Hopefully you can see it.

I have some of the same stuff and have had it for years. It's not a sponge and doesn't look like any hydroids I have ever seen. Just looks like very fine hairs on the bottoms of the rocks.

I just started running biopellets last weekend but I had this stuff years ago well before the vodka dosing craze started.

Hello Everyone,
I am new here and I also have this same issue. I have been using an Aquaripure system for the last month and a half or so and I have noticed this build up of almost a jelly like white fuzz under the live rocks. I have no idea what it is. Here is a picture.
It seems to be spreading across the tank only under the rocks where no lighting hits.

I hope someone recognizes what this is and know what we can do to remove it if needed.

Thanks in advance for your help!
